Philippians 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to GOD, and the peace of GOD, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ."
I love this verse because it endorses the one about casting all our cares on Jesus. Folks and situations will grind our wheels from time to time but turning all these concerns to GOD is liberating because the result is peace. How many of us know that when all is said and done, we are out here doing our best to find our peace, to live a life of fulfillment and contentment, one that's accentuated by breakthrough moments and the things that make our hearts leap for joy. It takes a little practice to turn all your cares to GOD but trust me when I say this - a peaceful mind is a healthy and creative mind. If you too are grappling to find your peace through relinquishing control, here are a few pointers that may help you see the need to hand over your cares to GOD:
1. We have little control of the outcome anyway. Job had what seemed like a perfect life yet disaster struck. Bear in mind that he was blameless before GOD, yet GOD allowed him to face the enemy's taunts and affliction. This was not only a great test, but also shows us that while we may try to fix a thing or two ourselves, GOD foresaw and knew what we would be faced with before the beginning of time. Isn't it then a great comfort to know that if GOD knew and saw everything, He knows what's needed to solve our issues? Disappointments or not, His ways are greater than ours could ever be. We never had control so why start pushing for it now? We are invited to cast our burdens on Christ so lets! Life is so much easier to get through when we know we have help readily available.
2. A mind free from anxiety cascades into how you do things. How many of us would love to live our lives totally void of that feeling of stress - like things are a few ticks away from falling apart? Turning off the anxiety switch is a matter of shifting your thoughts and focusing on all the positives that could be. As the adage goes - with time, thoughts become actions and right thinking can also result in positive endeavors.
3. Make it a habit to identify that which keeps you in a state of tranquility, quiet, freedom, good order and contentment. I enjoy the outdoors. It provides an opportunity for me to see the magnitude of GOD's creativity and that even still - with all the life He formed, I am super important to Him. Because I enjoy being outside, I go on what I call "prayer walks". During this time, I speak to GOD and ask Him not only for guidance, but for peace. God gives peace in abundance, all we have to do is ask. What activity puts you at ease that you can incorporate into your prayer life as well?
4. Peace requires that you fight for it. Sometimes it also requires us to make some hard choices to find that peace. A lot of our anxiety stems from interacting with people that are bad for our souls or entertaining uncomfortable situations. Being honest with yourself and asking GOD for guidance will help you fight through the tension required to find your peace. Your peace is worth everything you've got to give.
Now then, what price are you willing to pay to receive your peace. Philippians 4:6-7 is a reminder of GOD's promises to hear us when we call on Him. So call - He is here and waiting for you to signal for help.
