September 1st! Happy first of the month my goodness! I can't believe its September already!
We’ve come to that time were we all subconsciously enter into a “post-half year” panic (or not!), looking back at how many boxes we’ve managed to tick on our list of this year’s resolutions. As we know, life is a series of starts, pauses, ongoing pursuits, finishes and on to the next one. We will win some, we will lose others; we may experience total burn out along the way or pull out all the stops to keep from going under. But how many of us know that there is always an opportunity to press the reset button. There is always an opportunity to stop, take a step back, reassess what lies ahead of you and formulate a strategy that allows for a balanced approach to moving forward.
When this year began, I had somewhat of a plan. I knew what I wanted to achieve but was torn between whether to put a complete halt to one aspect of my career so I could pave way for another. GOD had other plans. In a matter of a few short weeks the plan I thought was pretty good though fraught by uncertainty, was overtaken by GOD’s plan. Proverbs 10:22 states: “The blessing of the LORD makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.” I look back at the challenges and learnings along the way, the sacrifices, the sleepless nights, the praise and worship sessions on the way to work while sitting in traffic, the times I thought I had nothing more to give in that time, yet still – GOD showed up and revitalized my faith. I was tasked with managing projects far different from anything I had ever handled before, I committed to radical adjustments after GOD had given my husband and I a series of instructions, and even managed to take on a second book project a few months after having launched my first. But GOD. If it were not for Him, and not sure we would have made it this far along with the things we are believing in Him for.
I sense a tremendous shift this year – a shift particularly for those whose hearts are inclined towards GOD and His principles. In this game of life, we each have a choice. Every single day we get to choose whether we should keep seeking to do life GOD’s way, or whether to be consumed by the world we live in. When finding that balance gets a little too overwhelming, press your reset button. Sift through the reality of where you are and seek to understand where stressors can be alleviated. If you are struggling with your finances, it may be time to consider cutting your expenses through practical means like downsizing into a smaller living space or reducing the number of times you eat out per week. If you find your relationships to be sapping the energy out of you, it may be time to assess who should and shouldn’t be in your life, or simply establish some clearly defined boundaries that foster healthy, non-intrusive or abusive relationships. Whatever situation you are confronted with, you do have power to press that reset button, paving way for a future you can be excited about.
As we enter the remaining third of this year, may our faith be renewed, holding steadfast to the hopes that everything will be okay and the challenges that may arise are designed to teach us something about our faith and characters. In the WORDS of Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding, and in all your ways, acknowledge GOD and He will guide your steps.”
