I come home often; at the very least twice a year. But this trip was a little different. This trip was about embracing what I believe GOD had been saying to me concerning my purpose, stepping away from head knowledge, and seeking a deeper more profound and spiritually-centred understanding of what GOD was saying – to me. Because GOD is all-knowing, He made sure I was surrounded by His soldiers, women Generals in GOD’s army who are on some supernatural levels of faith.
After our #QFCoffeebreak event, I was knackered, largely from the action-filled weekend I had experienced with many moments of intense prayer, supplication and worship with my sisters in Christ. We didn’t get much sleep in the days leading up to our event, so when it came time to hit the Harare-Bulawayo stretch a few days after that, I couldn’t have been happier sitting in the back seat of my mom and dad’s car while they drove us to our retreat. It was going to be a good few days.
Untamed Africa blows one away, especially when you’ve been away for a good bit of time. Mom, dad and I nestled in at Chengeta and Pamuzinda Safari Lodges for a few days of parents and daughter bonding. From the stillness of Serui River, to watching a herd of wildebeest graze while the guide shared with us insights into animal behaviour in the wild; I just caught myself muttering “My GOD…!” An opportunity to experience the Elephant Encounter, and up-close super immersive moment with one of the largest creatures of the world…and feeding Jasmine the Giraffe from the palm of my hand, this trip was simply breath-taking.
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
I’ve watched the sun set a million times, from the sun going down at the ocean’s horizon in the Persian Gulf, to viewing one from the Cumberland Trail just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee. I’ve watched the sun set a million times, but the sun setting across the African skies is pretty spectacular! For two days I got to marvel at no skyscrapers, no sound of traffic, just the silence of the Savannah terrain as the sun sets…
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
All the birds chirping to signal the dawning of a new day, the little mountains that cleverly tried to make an entry into our lodges each time a door was opened, the lions that roared all through the night on our first night at Chengeta, they were all created at the sound of GOD’s word. Human thinking can’t even conceptualise the magnitude of GOD’s strength and creativity. GOD IS the GREAT ‘I AM!’
“By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”
Next time you begin to doubt GOD’s ability to do things, GOD’s ability to answer your prayer, take a second to just watch nature take its course. From people walking around going about the business of the day, to the wind that blows your hair across your face. How do you explain the warmth of the sun over that of a fire on a wintery night? What about the dark skies across one part of town and the bright sun rays across a clear sky a short drive away? Yeah. “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of GOD….
“Thus says God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which comes out of it; he that gives breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein.”
Life as we know it is living proof that GOD is real. He is real people, so get to know Him so that His ways – the majestic nature of His ways, become real to you too. Oh, see and taste the goodness of the LORD!
“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place.”
Ever caught yourself wondering whether GOD is here? The reason why I enjoy the sound of silence is because this is where I hear GOD speak. So next time you need confirmation that GOD is present and all powerful, step outside your home in the late hours of the night or early hours of the morning and gaze at the stars. Trust me when I say this – if you are listening, you will hear GOD speak.
I’ve gained a deeper understanding of GOD’s might since returning back to the UAE. I don’t know; it’s something about all the activity happening beyond the human eye, all the natural cycles happening that we don’t experience daily unless we go out looking for them.
A month later, I’m still in awe, counting down to the next time I get to experience the awesome of GOD’s artistry in untamed Africa
