“Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.”
- 1 Kings 19v11 – 12
The Old Testament is full of Amazing stories of God’s POWER in action, especially in the book of Kings. This passage of Scripture has always stood out to me because in the world we live in now it is so relevant. The Lord’s voice was a still small voice after all the fanfare and noise. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
I have had many times in my life when I have felt as if God was not speaking or answering my prayers causing a lot of frustration but when I read this passage of Scripture I realised that it wasn’t that He wasn’t speaking; I just had too much clutter going on in my heart and head to actually hear what He was saying.
Our lives are full of NOISE and this is compounded by social media; and just the busy ness of life.
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
- Psalm 46v10
It is paramount every so often to switch off the ‘noise’ in our lives to enable us to fully connect with God. This means literally turning off your phone or putting it on silent when you are studying your Bible and making an effort to quiet your heart and mind of all the things on your TO DO LIST that you haven’t done and just BE STILL before God as you study The Bible and worship Him.
I encourage you to just BE STILL before GOD and you will be amazed at how much you will hear.
